My Karma Ran Over Your Dogma

Maybe it would be a humane thing to sterilise women who wanted to become lawyers. After all, even if you set aside enough time to fertilise the egg, you're not going to have much time for the stuff that happens afterwards. You'll feel a lot better about yourself if you didn't have to bother with all that.

Like maternity leave. Or resting after you've given birth. God knows I was lying awake thinking about my file list (not done! how will they cope when I'm gone!). Or having time to spend with your toddler, that is not also shared with your blackberry and people on a conference call. I was blowing bubbles yesterday evening for all of 5 minutes and got interrupted twice.

What I'd really like to do is hold my son and be in the present. Not with my mind frantically going through the events and emails of the day and wondering if there's something that I forgot to do. I want to enjoy him whilst he is still a baby. As it is, I can barely remember most of the first year of his life, and what he looked like when he was just born.

Seriously. I'd like to go home and give him some quality time and attention (for 2 hours) without constantly thinking that I should be sitting at the computer working on a document or some advice. I'd like him to remember me as not preoccupied with something other than him. And I would like to be present for his birthday this year instead of sitting on a plane by myself. This is not the life I wanted for myself or for my son. This is a Goddamned living hell.

You need a hug. *Hug* Actually, you need more than that, but it's the best I can do, eh?

well, just promise yourself to let 2 things screw up every day. ok, if 2 is too many, 1. then progress to 2 and stop at... 3?

of course, you must face the consequences but ...it's fun, try it.

then again, i can't remember a single thing in my life before 4 year-old. not even with all the photos and such. so unless it's for yourself, your kid won't mind :)

All working mothers probably struggle with that - that gnawing guilty feeling of not spending enough 'quality' time with the babe.

Although I'm not a working mother(but a mother nonetheless), I found Judith Rich Harris' book, "The Nurture Assumption, to be a great consolation for all mothers out there who struggle with feelings of guilt (what mother doesn't?). It's consolation based on fact and good research, not fluff.

Last night as I lay sleeping, I died or so it seemed.

Then I went to heaven, but only in my dreams.

Up there St. Peter met me, standing at the pearly gates.
He said, "I must check your record, please stand here and wait."

He turned and said, "Your record is covered with terrible flaws.
On earth I see you rallied for every losing cause.

I see that you drank alcohol and smoked and used drugs too.
Fact is, you've done everything a good person should never do.
We can't have people like you up here. Your life was full of sin. "

As I turned away, his eyes glanced down at the last entry, "Hang on..."
Then he read the last of my record, took my hand and said, "Come in."
He led me up to the big boss and said "Take her in and treat her well."

"She used to work in a law firm. She's done her time in hell."

AMEN

Well, hate to sound like a nagging grandparent, but the key to your problem is financial independence. Law is a skillset that can be harnessed to your advantage and not merely as a resource to be mined by others.

Quit your job!

Stay in a HDB instead of landed property. Live on needs and not wants... go on a material de-tox...

then you'll realise you don't need your day job and will all the time in the world with your son...

the next qn to ask yourself is: "Will I be happy then?"

Maybe when u do that, "I" will not be that strong in the equation.

Good luck babe!

Hi there

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here is the story of my dog called Shandy.
He was my favourite pet and he was very lively, lots of fun and very obedient. His main
passion in life was to be taken for a long walk, culminating with a big run out in his favourite
park. I would try to take him on this walk everyday, weather permitting. The park itself
was about three miles away from our house. What do you think?

Wow, I've found the same to be true too!  How did you find that?

Bye, bye - Wendy!

There are good days and there are bad days. They all come to an end some time and go in a cycle. Hope your stretch of bad days end soon. Hang in there!!! Don't be so hard on yourself.
